Race HQ will be at Coconut Palms Resort

Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu and the first thing you need to know is that we drive on the right hand side of the road and that the Taxi and Bus Drivers road rule ethics, not to mention the condition of the roads has something to be desired.

We have taken much of the worry away there because our Competitor and Spectator packages there is no need for you to do your own driving, but competitors should know that some of the Biking section will be on public roads, so keep right.

There are some great restaurants and places to eat, at any time during your stay the Event Organisers will be more than happy to point you in the right direction to get what you are looking for.  One of the big disappointments of some visitors to Vanuatu is the Food & Drink prices, they are comparable to prices in the Australian Capital cities and not the prices experienced by visitors to South-East Asia.

The other great thing about Port Vila where most of you will be staying, is the ease in which you can experience our many and varied tour options.  Most tours pick you up from the resort and within 30 minutes you can be sight-seeing, having a cultural experience, out on the water game fishing (Vanuatu is on the Marlin Highway), under the water diving or experiencing Eco and Adventure Tours.  You can view a lot of what there is to offer at www.toursvanuatu.com

The Race Organisers would also highly recommend for those who are able to travel more extensively in Vanuatu,  the following three things, having done them ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

  1. A trip down to Tanna to visit the world’s most accessible active Volcano Mt Yasur.  Unity Airlines were most helpful in flying Team Vanuatu Adventure and Chris from Outer Edge down there for some training, their website is www.unity-airlines.com
  2. A trip up to Santo to dive the President Coolidge and an experienced not to be missed is a Millennium Cave tour.  You can find more information at www.vanuatu.travel
  3. The Outer Islands are rarely visited but well worth it.  There are  a multitude of experiences to be had, from trekking around the Island of Futuna, the amazing waterfalls of Maewo or the Crater Lake of Gaua.  If you want to add to your experience in Vanuatu then contact Pascal from Vanuatu Eco-Tours, he’s done it all and will tailor your adventure, he can be contacted at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
